GAGOSIAN - Spring 2019

The Spring 2019 issue of Gagosian Quarterly is now available, featuring Red Pot with Lute Player #2 by Jonas Wood on its cover. Inside this issue, we hear from Georg Baselitz about his latest work, the Devotion series, and take a look at the primary sources behind some of Richard Artschwager’s most iconic paintings. Thelma Golden and Sir David Adjaye talk about the future home of the Studio Museum in Harlem, New York, and Paul Goldberger reflects on art, architecture, and landscape at the newly expanded Glenstone in Potomac, Maryland. Jenny Saville and Sally Mann treat us to a captivating conversation about the unexpected synergies in their artistic investigations. Salamishah Tillet travels to Tryon, North Carolina, to visit Nina Simone’s childhood home, recently purchased by artists Ellen Gallagher, Rashid Johnson, Julie Mehretu, and Adam Pendleton. We also speak with Jia Aili about his motivations, consider Andy Warhol’s relationship to camp sensibilities, and debut the first work in a series of four short fiction pieces by Mark Z. Danielewski.

Additionally, we are excited to announce our Building a Legacy series, which will feature in-depth articles offering pragmatic information from experts on topics related to preparing and preserving artists’ creative legacies. We begin this series by interviewing attorney Luke Nikas on best practices for artists, foundations and estates, scholars, and experts when it comes to authentication, catalogues raisonnés, and protecting intellectual property.
